DESIGN YOUR OWN HARMONICA!

With the Shapediver online configurator, it’s quick and easy. Simply choose your favourite from a range of HARMONICA versions and customise it to your personal needs and preferences. You can determine the form and length of your desired bench, choose different legs, experiment with different bench slats, play with colours and much more.

Get creative with our online configurator

Another great feature lets you visualise what your HARMONICA curved bench would look like in its future location. Simply generate a QR code to display the bench in your planned setting using augmented reality (AR). Your clients are sure to be amazed.

Are you an architect or designer? Then upload your own curve and work with it directly. You can download the HARMONICA benches you have created as 3D files and import them into common rendering programs. If you download the curve and the parameter file, you can upload them again at a later date and make further changes to your HARMONICA curved bench.

If you need any help, we are here for you. If you are already 100% satisfied with the bench you have designed, then send us your creation by email right away: Tim Kopetzki, Workshop Manager, Project Manager and Designer HARMONICA seating system, tim.kopetzki@holzbiegen.ch. We will make any necessary adjustments and come back to you with a personalised quotation.

You can find detailed instructions below, or here as a PDF file. Have fun experimenting!

Instructions for the HARMONICA online configurator

You have a wide range of options available. Here is an overview of the best way to create your own personalised HARMONICA bench:

  1. In the menu, under ‘Select Variant’, choose a basic form, a support type and the geometry of the joints and slats. Alternatively, under ‘Upload CAD Curve’, you can upload your own curve to generate your bench.
  2. Go to ‘Modus-Speed, Color’ to select the rendering, colour and texture type. Please note that the rendering will significantly impact the time required to calculate changes to your HARMONICA. We therefore recommend that you only select ‘Render textured’ once you have progressed further with the other settings. In the fastest mode ‘Enforce Design, fast’, you will also be shown additional information such as the curve path, control points and the dimensions of your curved bench.

  3. ‘Size’ gives you the option of editing the size and length of your HARMONICA and changing the diameter if you have selected ‘Circle’ as the basic form.

  4. In the menu item ‘Flip Direction’, you can change the orientation and position of your curved bench along the predefined curve.
  5. If you want to change the curve itself, you can do so by moving its control points under ‘Move Controlpoints’. A certain amount of sensitivity is required here, as even the smallest changes can have a major impact on the geometry of individual slats. It can be helpful to select ‘Nurbcurve’ under ‘Curve’ in the ‘Details Advanced’ section further down in the menu.

  6. If you wish, you can change the colours of your wooden bench in the section ‘Colors, Material +’ .

  7. Under ‘Show Details +’, you can display and hide components and additional information. For the actual production of your designed HARMONICA, the ‘Show Limit’ function is particularly important. By activating this function, coloured spheres are displayed on each slat, giving you a quick overview of whether the dimensions of the slats are within the tolerances. Our bent parts have a standard width of 68 mm, and the slats should not be too tapered. A red ball is therefore displayed if a slat is wider than 68 mm and a blue ball is displayed if slats are less than 23 mm wide. In these cases, you can adjust the curve by changing the control points or make further adjustments under ‘Details Advanced’. When all the balls are green, there is nothing else standing in the way of producing your designed bench.

  8. Under ‘Details Advanced’, you also have a wide range of options for further optimising your HARMONICA, the most important of which are briefly presented here:
    • ‘Curve’: If you switch here to ‘Nurbcurve’ , the curve no longer runs directly through the control points. Instead, it rounds out, so the curve of the bench becomes smoother. This can simplify the work under ‘Move Controlpoints’ .
    • Here you also have the option of changing the number of slats by factor or direct input, adjusting the joint dimensions and changing details of the substructure. The latter is particularly important for the production. We will make the necessary adjustments before sending you a personalised quotation for producing your custom bench.

  9. In the last step, you can enter your name and email address under ‘Email-Export Options’ and select the format in which you would like to receive the geometry of your HARMONICA. Embedded in the geometry data (if this is supported by the selected file format, e.g. .dwg), you will also find the modified curve of your bench.

  10. If you also download the parameters of your curved wooden bench by clicking on the three small dots at the top right of the parameter menu under ‘Export Parameter Values’ , you can load the curve and the parameters back into the online configurator at a later date and continue editing your bench. To obtain this data, click on the export icon above the parameter menu and select ‘Email Geometry to your mail’.
  11. If you click on ‘Mail Geometry to Holzbiegen for further steps’ , an email with the geometry data of your bench will be sent to us. We can then advise you further, fine-tune the settings if necessary and send you a personalised quotation for your custom HARMONICA. Please email us at design@holzbiegen.ch with a brief description of your ideas and requirements, or contact us by phone on +41 56 246 16 40.

We look forward to hearing from you and seeing your creative designs! Your wood-bending team.
